Bean suppliers - Coffee Tasting

This week Steve from respected mail order roasters Has Bean sends us this report

A very rare red and orange bourbon varietal mix. In the cup I get fruit salad sweets (for those who don’t know this is a very sweet fruits chewy sweet) all on the front end. A lovely acidity to match. Not over powering but completely in balance with the whole cup. And this is what it does best, balance in the cup. Then this develops into a winey complex rich taste. Then it’s the sweet sweet aftertaste that just carries on and on and on.

La Ilusion is a small plantation on the Santa Ana volcano in El Salvador. The grower Ernesto Mendez is a growing star in specialty coffee and this coffee is the winner of the cup of excellence in 2008.

Coffee supplier Lucien Verrezen of Coffee Roasting Company, confirmed that all coffee should always be consumed as soon as possible after roasting as it goes stale rapidly.

In general coffee loses about half it’s taste and aroma every two weeks and should be consumed within two months of the roasting date
